From Dream to Recognition: Winning the King Charles Award

Writer: Jennifer RabanilloJennifer Rabanillo

There are moments in life when time slows down. When the years of hard work, late nights, second-guessing, and soul-deep passion crystallize into one unforgettable experience. For me, that moment came when I received the news:

I was being awarded the King Charles Award.

Even as I write those words, it still feels surreal.

👑 What the King Charles Award Means to Me

This isn’t just about a title or a trophy. The King Charles Award represents excellence in service, leadership, and community impact, values I’ve poured into every project, every event, every person I’ve ever had the honour of working with.

To be recognized not just for what I do but for who I am - a woman who leads with heart, creates from lived experience, and uplifts others along the way - is deeply humbling.

As a first-generation Filipina Canadian, this award holds even more weight. It’s a testament to the power of representation and the importance of claiming space not just for myself, but for those who come after me.

✹ The Journey Here

My career began in the spotlight of Canadian television, working with MuchMusic and navigating the fast-paced world of production. But my heart always beat louder for community, creativity, and connection.

From producing events and mentoring students, to founding Styleworthy Studio, writing my book, and creating spaces where people could heal and be seen, I’ve followed an unconventional path.

There were moments I questioned whether it was all working. Whether anyone noticed. Whether the work I was doing behind the scenes made a difference.

This award answered that with a resounding yes.

đŸ’« Recognition Is a Reflection

While the award may have my name on it, I share it with:

  • Every woman who’s ever doubted her worth and rose anyway

  • Every team member, client, and community leader who’s collaborated with me

  • Every person who’s shown up to a workshop, a panel, a sound bowl session, or simply followed the journey

This win is for us. For those who lead with integrity. For those who build quietly but with intention. For those who are creating change even when no one is watching.

🌾 What’s Next

The King Charles Award has lit a new fire in me. I’m more committed than ever to:

  • Empowering women through wellness and storytelling

  • Creating accessible spaces for creativity and self-expression

  • Supporting young voices and first-generation changemakers

  • And continuing to lead with love, culture, and courage

I’ve always believed that when you own your story, you empower others to own theirs. This award has reminded me that the stories we live, especially the hard ones are often the ones worth telling.

Thank you to the selection committee, the community, and every soul who’s been part of my journey. This recognition isn’t the end,

it’s just the beginning of something even greater.
